Behavioural Case Study Questions: Revision Guide

Not sure what these questions are and how to answer them? Don`t worry, we will explain it all here in this article. We shall also present you with sample questions so that you can practise answering.

You probably know already that the CSCS test consists of different question groups depending on the type of test you need to undertake (operators, specialists, managers/professionals). In each of these three you will be presented a set number of multiple choice test questions covering various categories of the core knowledge based questions.

You will also need to work your way through a special question group called "behavioural case study questions".

What are the Behavioural Case Study Question about?

Constructions sites are very dangerous places full of risks and hazards that need to be recognised and managed by everybody involved. Your responses to health and safety situations on a construction site can potentially mean life or death to yourself and others.

This question group has been designed with this in mind, and by working your way through it your reactions towards these hazards will be assessed.

You will be presented the Behavioural Case Study Questions at the beginning of the Health, Safety and Environment test. There are three case studies with four multiple choice questions to answer, that is 12 questions in total.

In each of these case studies you will be presented with a certain health and safety situation. You will have to decide how to react to the hazards and risks presented in it, and then choose the best of the offered answers to deal with that critical situation.

Once the answer is chosen there is no going back, so consider carefully the answers that are offered. Depending on your answer the next question will be presented in the same case study, until you have worked your way through the 4 multiple choice questions for each of the three case studies. .

The `Setting Out` video

The questions in the case studies are designed to test your reactions and reinforce your behaviour in accordance with the principles laid out in the "Setting Out" video created by Citb for the purpose of this test.

This video has been made by the industry to give guidance on what you should expect on a construction site and what is expected from you.

It is an 11 minute video presentation that you are advised to watch before attempting to sit the test. The presentation gives details about safety measures, rules and regulations that form the basis of health and safety on construction sites.

You can watch the video right here bellow or you can watch in on YouTube here.

Sample questions

In order to understand how this question group is set up we have prepared some behavioural case study example questions that are very similar to the ones encountered in the real test.

Please note that even though you are only allowed to select one correct answer, there are usually more than one correct answers offered. The point is to choose the best one, but even if you choose the second best, you will still progress further.
